Language commonly is used as a means of communication among people. English Language in an international language and has become a means of communication interaction many countries and also become an interaction language in science. Considering in this condition, Indonesian students must study this lesson well. But, Indonesian students are confused to study English as a foreign language, exactly in studying writing, because our education is still dominant by memorizing. The class focus to the teacher as the first source knowledge and the students cannot express their idea, feelings and opinion.

In this research, the researcher tries to describe the technique used by the teacher in teaching writing. To make easy for the students in writing text, the researcher chose Recount Text as the material. The researcher thinks that Recount Text is suitable for the student to express their idea that connects with real condition of the students. This research also to know kinds of technique are uses by the teacher to teach writing and the problems are faced by the teacher, how the teacher solve the problem.

The result of this research, the researcher gives test for the student. Before and after the students accept the material using Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach in writing, to collect the data of research. This research gets positive response. The fourth component in writing (Relevance, Organize, Grammar and Vocabulary) increase. Relevance increase 0,5%, organize increase 6,6%, grammar increase 1,1%, and vocabulary increase 7,1%. So, all components increase, although in a little number. The researcher also using questionnaire and interview, after she get the data of questionnaire, she analyzes and interprets the questionnaire data.

Based on the interview for the teacher, she know that the technique are uses by the teacher is Three – Phase – Technique and the teacher describe the problem are faces by the teacher is media of teaching learning is limited. So, the students are more silent.

Finally, the Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach can improve the students writing skill, if it is done systematically and always tents to be the lesson plan to get the better result in the end of teaching learning process. The writer suggests to other English teacher to implement this approach in the classroom to improve the writing skill, reading, speaking, and listening. But, the result will not always be the same as this research because there are some factors that influence the result of the research or the learning result in the classroom. It depends on the teacher, the students and the ways or strategies to serve and to transfer the materials by using Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach.
